Hamilton International wins state competition for Youth Art Month
For the second straight year, Hamilton International Middle School has won the state competition for the Youth Art Month flag.
The winning designers were Jessie Ma and Tiffany Shen. The contest was sponsored by the Washington Art Education Association.
The artwork – representing the four art disciplines for Washington state – will be made into a flag. This flag, as well other works from Hamilton students, will be traveling to Fort Worth, Texas to be displayed March 6-10 at the national convention of the National Art Education Association (NAEA). Last year, Hamilton’s artwork was displayed in New York City at the national convention.
The artwork of the following students were selected for the Youth Art Month state flag and the Youth Art Month Museum for the NAEA conference.
• Lindsay Denny
• Matreya Teichrow
• Michiko Wild
• Emma Boyd
• Ella Murray
• Mia Lorentsen
The flag and art works will later be brought back to Washington state, where they will be part of the opening ceremony for the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s regional art show in Olympia.
After the show, the flag will hang in the Old Capital building, alongside last year’s winner from Hamilton.
