Roosevelt High wins top trophy at Clark College Jazz Festival; Hamilton International places second, Eckstein third, in middle school finals

Roosevelt High School was awarded the top honor - the Dale Beacock Memorial Sweepstakes Trophy - at the 51st annual Clark College Jazz Festival last month. On the final evening of the festival, one band from the entire festival is selected to receive the coveted Sweepstakes Trophy, a tradition which has been passed down since 1963.

The Roosevelt teams also placed first in the AAA Division and the AAAA Division.

In the middle school jazz ensemble category, Hamilton International Middle School placed second and Eckstein Middle School placed third.

The Clark College Jazz Festival was held in Vancouver, Wash. on Jan. 24. The festival has been host to one of the largest jazz festivals in Southwest Washington for over 50 years. It is held the last weekend in January in Gaiser Hall on the Clark College campus and attracts over 60 middle and high school instrumental jazz ensembles for the three-day competitive festival. Groups perform to an esteemed panel of adjudicators made up of renowned jazz educators and performers. Complete list of 2013 winners.
